Solidarity Peace Trust
The Solidarity Peace Trust was formed in 2003 and headed by church leaders from across southern Africa who are committed to human rights, democracy and freedom. The organization works to build solidarity between ordinary people, churches, and other organizations in pursuit of justice and equality in Zimbabwe.
The Solidarity Peace Trust has taken a particular interest in the situation of Zimbabwean asylum seekers in South Africa. In November 2004, it issued a report entitled “No War in Zimbabwe: An Account of the Exodus of a Nation’s People.” This report argued that the South African government was reluctant to offer refugee status to Zimbabweans. In follow up advocacy, the organization called for the matter to be brought to the courts.
