National Society for Human Rights

The National Society for Human Rights was founded in 1989 and is a non-profit monitoring and advocacy organization. Their goal is to promote respect for the rights guaranteed in international law and the Namibian constitution. While refugee rights do not appear to be a core focus of their work, they have issued a number of statements over the past few years dealing with refugee issues. They have protested suggestions that forced repatriation might be imminent, the unlawful deportation of an Angola human rights activist, and violations of refugees’ freedom of expression. They have also worked on behalf of a refugee organization known as the Association for the Defense of Refugee Rights.
