Groupe Jérémie
Groupe Jérémie was created in February 1993 in Bukavu (eastern DRC). It is made up of individuals working for peace and justice from diverse sectors of society: professors, lawyers, priests, and ordinary citizens…
Groupe Jérémie is a group concerned with civic education, the promotion of peace and democracy and the defense of human rights. It reflects on and analyses social, culture political and economic events and works for peace through dialogue and reconciliation, and engages in lobbying and activism on behalf of human rights.
Groupe Jérémie has been concerned with, and involved in, specific instances of displacement. For example, they have recently intervened on behalf of 245 families displaced internally due to abuses committed by Rwandan militias in Budodo who gathered in a stadium in Walungu. Groupe Jérémie observed that these IDPs were hardly receiving any assistance. While Groupe Jérémie did not have the resources to come to their aid directly, they did arrange radio broadcasts to sensitize people to their situation and request aid.
