Africa and Middle East Refugee Assistance (AMERA)— Egypt

AMERA-Egypt is a branch of AMERA UK, a charity registered in the United Kingdom. AMERA-Egypt provides legal assistance and representation for asylum-seekers in their refugee status determination process with the UNHCR.

In this vein, AMERA Egypt's legal advisors prepare legal briefs and testimonies and accompany asylum-seekers to their first instance and appeals interviews before the UNHCR; offer classes to refugees in preparing their testimonies and presenting their own cases to the UNHCR; and provide legal advice regarding resettlement and local integration concerns. In addition, its psychosocial workers provide counseling and crisis intervention for refugees who have experienced trauma and torture. AMERA Egypt also participates in policy development and public education initiatives on refugee protection concerns by collaborating with and providing cross-training to Egyptian lawyers, community organizations, and international organizations on issues of refugee protection under international and domestic legal standards.
