FIDA Uganda

FIDA, the Uganda Association of Women Lawyers [link to its website http://www.fida.ug, although I understand that this is currently down, they hope to have it up and running by February 2009] is an affiliate of the International Federation of Women Lawyers.  Established in 1974, FIDA provides legal aid to defend the rights of women and has offices in Kampala, Iganga and Gulu.  In Gulu, FIDA provides legal aid to displaced women and promotes awareness on domestic relations, property rights, inheritance and sexual violence, among others.  FIDA works to provide legal education, promote the human rights of women and children and advocate for gender-sensitive policies.  The Chief Executive Officer of FIDA Uganda is Maria Nassali.
