Association Africaine de Defense des Droits de l’Homme (ASADHO)
Association Africaine de Defense des Droits de l’Homme (ASADHO) is a non-political, non-governmental organization working for human rights in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was formed on January 10, 1991 in Kinshasa by a group of young doctors, journalists and lawyers who were concerned about the abuses of the regime of Mobutu Sese Seko.
ASADHO works to defend human rights through aggressive monitoring, reporting and denunciation of killings, torture, rape, maiming, the use of child soldiers and other abuses. The organization has braches throughout the country, which compile the information for inclusion in press releases and reports which ASADHO is then able to bring to the attention of policymakers.

Work for the Protection of Refugees and Other Vulnerable Persons
In its Protection Program, ASADHO/KATANGA places a particular accent on refugees taking into account their vulnerable nature. It thus puts at their disposal free legal and judicial assistance in making contact with the relevant authorities or institutions in order to safeguard their rights. There are currently Rwandan, Angolan and Burundian refugees in Katanga.
It is through this lens that ASADHO/KATANGA works to make sure that different refugees in Katanga live in good conditions, and very often the organizations approached take up the concerns of presented by ASADHO. These groups include: the Division of Social Affairs, the UNHCR, Caritas, the Jesuit Refugee Service, etc.
In 2003, ASADHO/KATANGA assisted Angolan refugees who had requested to return home in contacting the UNHCR Lubumbashi sub-office, which made the necessary arrangements for their voluntary repatriation. ASADHO/KATANGA is a member of the steering committee for the repatriation of Angolan refugees.
ASADHO/KATANGA has often intervened on behalf of individuals requesting refugee status from UNHCR.
